# Troubleshoot a custom domain

> Resolve DNS, ownership and HTTPS setup problems.

Open **Settings → Public address → Manage domain** to see the current status and live records. Keep using the platform link while setup is incomplete.

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| Waiting for DNS | Compare Type, Name and Value against the app. Wait for your provider's changes to propagate, then choose Check again. |
| Verification or HTTPS pending | Keep the required records in place. Ownership, routing and HTTPS must all finish before Connected appears. |
| Ownership issue | Confirm the TXT proof belongs to this project and hostname. Check that the domain is not already claimed elsewhere. |
| Needs attention | Read the displayed issue, correct the records or provider configuration, and use Try again when offered. |
| Expired setup | Start the connection again and use the newly displayed records. Old proof may no longer apply. |
| Paused | Restore Pro or share your Feedback Loop link. A retained hostname is not proof that it is serving the community. |

## Common DNS mistakes

* **Duplicated domain suffix:** a provider may turn `community.example.com` into `community.example.com.example.com`. Use its expected name format.
* **CNAME proxy enabled:** switch the record to DNS only.
* **Old proof:** copy the current TXT record rather than an earlier attempt's value.
* **Wrong website:** the address is derived from the saved Website in Project details, not unsaved text.

## Automatic setup is unavailable

Use the records displayed in the dialog. Provider support, approval configuration and dashboard HTTPS can affect whether automatic setup is offered. You do not need automatic setup to connect a domain.

## After disconnecting

Remove the records identified by the disconnection message from your DNS provider. Disconnection does not delete your feature requests or release notes.
